Rain Fall Data Collection
We've been collecting rain fall data for Lincoln County since the 1900's.  Residents of Lincoln County volunteer to measure monthly rain fall and
send in their results.  Currently there are 27 residents collecting rain fall.
Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP)
The Lincoln County draft CWPP is designed to:
•        Reduce wildfire risk for Lincoln County residents, landowners, businesses, communities, local governments and state
and federal agencies;
•        Identify high fire risk areas and develop strategies to reduce risk;
•        Improve awareness of wildland fire issues locally;
•        Provide opportunities for discussions among community members and agencies regarding priorities for fire protection and
natural resource management;
•        Maintain appropriate wildfire response capabilities; and
•        Improve access to funding to achieve these goals.
The draft CWPP recommends various actions be taken by fire districts, property owners, local government and others, but does
not impose regulations on private properties. The CWPP Planning Committee – comprising representatives from local fire
districts, Washington Departments of Natural Resources and Fish and Wildlife, Bureau of Land Management, private land
managers, various Lincoln County departments and others – are coordinating the effort.

Soils Poster Contest Winners!
The Lincoln County Conservation District sponsored a local soils poster contest for 7th, 8th and 9th grade students in Lincoln County this
spring that coincided with the annual NACD (National Association of Conservation Districts) poster contest.  The theme for the poster contest
was “Dig It!  The Secrets of Soil” and was selected to coincide with the “Dig It!  The Secrets of Soil” exhibit that is now on display at the
Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C.  More information and videos on the exhibit and the secrets of soil are
available at the Smithsonian Institute website at:

Contest information and entry forms were distributed to ten school districts across Lincoln County.  Twenty three students from the Reardan-
Edwall, Wilbur and Harrington school districts participated in the contest.  Contestants were asked to develop their own hand drawn soils
posters that addressed the contest theme in their own unique way.  The posters were judged on their Conservation Message (50%), Visual
Effectiveness (30%), Originality (10%), and Universal Appeal (10%).

Cydnee Kieffer from Harrington won first place for her poster, which has been forwarded on to the Washington State Conservation
Commission to participate in the state soils poster contest along with winning posters from other conservation districts across the state.  The
winning posters in the state contest for each age category will be forwarded on to NACD to participate in the national soils poster contest.
Four one day passes to Wild Waters Water Park in Couer d’Alene were awarded to Cydnee for the $100 first place prize.

Kaili Shockley from Harrington won second place in the contest and was awarded a $40 gift certificate to Davenport Lanes.  Alexandra Potts
