The garden is bare. No landscape. Just weed infested mulch. The lack of paved pathways and raised, ADA compliant garden beds does not allow wheel chair accessibility.
Garden boxes were extremely worn down.
The weed infested soil makes it extremely difficult to upkeep the garden's conditions.
People want to grow things! But they also want to be able to sit on a bench when they're tired, or find shade when it's too hot.
The Davenport High School Future Farmers of America, along with several members of the community, volunteered their time to break down the old garden boxes in preparation for the reconstruction. The project has already begun!
Since the new garden will provide a great opportunity for hands on learning experiences for students, the local Davenport schools are excited to work with the Davenport Community Garden.
The FFA adviser and horticulture teacher at Davenport High School will use the new garden site for educational demonstrations, senior projects, and much more.
Plans for the new garden
